Don't put a ceiling on your children's dreams

My ten-year-old Hayden told me yesterday afternoon that he didn't think he'd be able to make it to the AFI; He saw a lower league as a more achievable goal. I looked at him proudly and said: “Let's not set a limit on our goal for now. The sky is still the limit, so let's keep training and see what happens.” Maybe my child will not make it to the AFL. Maybe he'll get his attention away from this and try something else. Perhaps he will not put in the effort required to achieve this, or he simply does not have the talent. . Perhaps he will suffer an injury that will prevent him from continuing. But I will not put a ceiling on his ambitions (or the ambitions of the rest of my children). It is my job to help them fly, not to bring them back to earth. I watched an interview with Jordan Spieth, who recently won the American Masters Tournament, one of the four major tournaments in the Professional Golf League. In this interview, he said that his goal was to win the tournament one day. It was a very bold goal from a fourteen-year-old boy. But it was clear that he was convinced that he could do it. When I read about his family and the team supporting him, it became clear that they maintained his stability, supported his ambitions, and helped him make the required effort.
